Celia earned a bachelor of science and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.   Prior to founding Dogwood Financial Planning, Celia worked as a management consultant and nutrition professional.  She completed her financial planning education at Christian Brothers University.  After more than 25 years as an investor and assisting family and friends with their finances, Celia turned her longtime avocation into a career.

To enhance her financial planning practice, Celia is a member of the Garrett Planning Network, an international affiliation of approximately 300 independent financial advisors and planners dedicated to offering independent, as-needed financial planning and advice to people from all walks of life.  She is a member of NAPFA, the largest professional association of Fee-Only comprehensive financial planners in the United States.  Celia is also a member of the Financial Planning Association, the largest organization of professionals dedicated to championing the financial planning process.  She serves on the Pro Bono Committee of the Mid-South Chapter of the Financial Planning Association.

Celia's life experiences make her especially in tune with clients' needs.  She knows what it's like to:

  • Raise children
  • Care for elderly parents
  • Buy or sell a house in a difficult market
  • Finance a college education
  • Face the financial aspects of a job loss
  • Plan for retirement in the face of many other financial demands

Celia volunteers her time and support to a number of organizations and events within her church and community.  As a Junior Achievement volunteer, she teaches financial literacy in local schools.  She also works with the Aging Commission of the Mid-South as a SHIP volunteer, helping enroll seniors and others in Medicare.  During tax season, Celia also works with the AARP Tax Aide program, assisting elders with their income tax returns.    In her free time, Celia enjoys hiking, bicycling, gardening, and spending time with her husband Mike and their two sons.
